Emerald Labs Meratrim is a stimulant-free dietary supplement that has been developed as an over the counter (OTC) weight management aid. According to the official Emerald Labs website and the diet pill product label, the stimulant-free Meratrim is “doctor-formulated” and has a “clinical serving.” It also advertises “up to 12 pounds in 8 weeks” weight loss.
The official site claims that Meratirm has shown in clinical studies to help support:
- Up to 12.02 pounds of weight loss
- Up to a 4.75 inches decrease in waist circumference
- Up to a 2.52 inches decrease in hip circumference
- The promotion of adiponectin activity (adiponectin is a fat-burning hormone)
It should be noted that all of these Emerald Labs Meratrim claims are based on two 8 week studies involving 100 obese subjects. While the studies were randomized, double-blind and placebo controlled, two studies over the course of 8 weeks is simply not enough to prove the efficacy or safety of any ingredient for weight loss or otherwise.
What is Meratrim?
As for the Emerald Labs Meratrim ingredients, when this review was written, the only active ingredient in the formula was 800 mg of Meratrim (per 2 capsule serving). The suggested use is to take 1 capsule with breakfast and 1 with dinner, for a total of 2 capsules daily.
Meratrim was initially created by InterHealth Nutraceuticals and is a combination of two herbal extracts that are combined in a 3:1 ratio:
- Sphaeranthus indicus
- Garcinia mangostana
According to InterHealth Nutraceuticals, Meratrim delivers the following benefits:
- Fat cells have a harder time multiplying
- Supports fat cells in the burning of stored fat
- Lowers the amount of fat that fat cells collect from the bloodstream
While there have been studies, as previously mentioned above in this Emerald Labs Meratrim review, it is important to note that one of the studies was paid for by InterHealth Nutraceuticals. Additionally the researchers of another study, which analyzed the safety and toxicological evaluation of Meratrim, included individuals who were previously employed by InterHealth Nutraceuticals, were currently employed by the company, and those who were employed by Laila Nutraceutical and had pending patents filed, thus creating both a conflict of interest and biased research.
Does Emerald Labs Meratrim Work?
There is no guarantee that it can live up to the claims that have been made about it. Even if the studies were from impartial sources. The simple fact remains that a few studies are not enough to prove the efficacy or safety of an ingredient. Moreover, although the few studies suggest that this ingredient is safe to take for the short-term with promising results, it is unknown if it is safe or beneficial to take over the long term.
The bottom line is that if you are curious to try Emerald Labs Meratrim, it is strongly recommended that you first consult with your healthcare provider.
